Permit and Fees
building permit is required to side or re-side all buildings.  Residential siding is a set fee of $75.00 plus State surcharge.

Specific Requirements
  • A water resistive barrier (house wrap) – one layer of #15 felt paper or equivalent is required on all buildings and attached garages. Not required on detached accessory buildings. 
  • Siding must be installed per the manufacturer’s installation procedures.
 
Inspections
A final building inspection is required (provide photos of house wrap and flashing for vinyl siding).  All inspections require a 24-hour notice to the Building Department.  To schedule an inspection, please contact 651-322-2024. 

Exterior Vertical Surface Design Standards
Below is a summary of the City of Rosemount exterior material requirements for single family, townhome, and accessory buildings. There are additional requirements for barns or agricultural buildings and your Homeowners’ Association may have specific requirements for your neighborhood. Please contact the Planning Department for more detailed information or if you have any questions.

Single Family Detached Dwellings
Except for earth sheltered homes, all exterior vertical surfaces of a single-family dwelling and accessory structures shall be treated as a front and have an equally attractive, or the same, fascia. Any exterior building finish shall consist of a combination of the following materials: wood, brick, natural stone, aluminum and glass, steel, or vinyl siding. Steel siding with exposed panels exceeding sixteen (16) inches in width, shall not be permitted.

Single Family Attached Dwellings
All exterior vertical surfaces of a townhome dwelling and accessory structures shall be treated as a front and have an equally attractive or the same fascia. At least fifty (50) percent of any exterior building finish shall consist of a combination of materials which are non-combustible, non-degradable and maintenance free (for example, base brick, natural stone, glass and aluminum, steel or vinyl siding) or those comparable in grade and quality. No exterior building finish shall be sheet aluminum, asbestos, iron, steel, corrugated aluminum or untreated block.

Accessory Buildings
Prefabricated metal storage buildings are limited to one hundred twenty (120) square feet maximum area in residential zoning districts. This regulation also applies for non-agricultural buildings located on AG zoned lots less than twenty (20) acres in size and located west of Akron Avenue. Accessory buildings larger than one hundred twenty (120) square feet shall have siding which is identical or closely matches the home (principal building).
