MS4 Pond Maintenance

General Information
The Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit requires permitted agencies to inspect all ponds and outfalls (the point where storm water enters into a receiving water body) once every five years, or about 20% per year.  The goal of the inspection is to determine whether a component is in good working condition and able to perform its intended function.

31 outfalls and 13 ponds were inspected in 2015; these are the results:

  • About half of the outfalls have minor sediment buildup within the structure
  • Most outfalls appear to be in good structural condition
  • Two ponds have some sediment buildup and require routine maintenance
  • No ponds had erosion issues

Pond inspections are scheduled to begin mid-June 2016.  Open the interactive map below to see which ponds will be inspected this year.

This informational sheet summarizes the work plan to address these issues.
This interactive map contains current information about work scheduled at a pond near you.
